John McGuinness

John McGuinness is a Managing Partner and member of the firm’s Management Committee. As Co-Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer, he helps shape Thirdpath’s institutional foundation, overseeing the legal, regulatory, compliance, and operating framework that underpins its private markets business.

Prior to joining Thirdpath, John spent more than eight years at StepStone Group, where he most recently served as Global Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel. In that role, he led the firm’s global compliance program during a period of significant growth and institutional expansion.

Prior to StepStone, John was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. He began his legal career at Fried, Frank, where he advised private fund sponsors, financial institutions, and institutional investors on fund formation, regulatory matters, and complex transactions.

John received his B.A. from Fordham University and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor of the Brooklyn Law Review.
